Where did you get your idea from?
The main type of research we carried out was primary research. We spoke with students to see if there was a demand for our service at lunch times. We wanted to make sure students would buy our product before committing to it. We did some secondary research by looking at previous business plans that our school had completed. We found that a group has done this type of enterprise and it was very successful so we decided that we would do the same, However our main challenge was to make our enterprise better.
Who were your Competitions?
Our main competitors were the other food and beverage groups in our school. We did some research finding out what they were offering, what days they were selling and how they presented their product to the customer. We wanted to ensure that our Enterprise would stand out.
Who is involved in the project?
Luke, Harry and Conor
What the costs were?
We priced our hot chocolate at €2 each. We aimed to make our product affordable for those students as when we carried out our primary research, we interviewed first and second year students who told us they bring in between 2 and 5 euro to school.
Who they hope to sell to?
Our target market is the students and teachers at Scoil Mhuire Strokestown. we particularly wanted to target the junior cycle students who stay in school during lunch time.
When the project will be ready?
First week of November
When it will be available for sale?
Every Lunch time except for Friday.
Where it will be available for sale?
Available in School every lunch time except Friday outside the school hall.
How customers can pay?
Cash on the day.
Did you encounter any problems?
We found that in order to make sales, we had to put an announcement out to the school on the day we were planning to sell. We forgot to do this the first day we were selling and we didn’t get many sales. We decided to put a reminder on our phones everyday we were going to sell to put an announcement notifying the students that we would be selling. This had a positive impact on our sales.
Were there any risks involved?
The main risk that was involved in making our Hot Chocolate was the health and safety of selling hot drinks in school. We had to ensure we had paper cups that allowed hot drinks in them, and we also had to ensure we had lids for our drinks as we could not sell them without due to the safety of students walking around with hot beverages.
