We designed a Smashed It! Sports Journal, as our Student Enterprise, we were inspired to create our own anti-journal after one of our sisters received the American book “Wreck This Journal”.

We designed a book featuring a collection of suggestions, asking readers to release any sporting frustrations they may be feeling - and use their mess-making abilities to destroy the “Smashed it Sport Journal'', through a series of quirkily illustrated prompts, such as paint the book with the studs of you boots or give the book a puc of the hurl! The book has prompts for a range of different sports and for kids of all abilities. We also included some fun sporting facts.

Our journal is aimed at 7 to 13 year olds.

The reason we chose to centre the journal around sport is because all three of our team are avid sports fans and we know the benefits of sport for the wellbeing of children. We have also seen first hand how sport can become too competitive and exclusive instead of inclusive. We are the right people to deliver this business because we hope to encourage children to stick with and to try new sports in a fun and creative way - journaling as they go!

About Our Project

Where the idea came from:
After brainstorming ideas, and after researching different activity based products for young people, we saw how popular the “Wreck it Journal” is with our younger siblings. We felt that we could alter this product and base it on a sports themed journal. We are all involved in sports in our local area and so it was a good fit for us.

Who is involved in the project:
The following Transition Year students are involved in the enterprise:
Charlie Cullinan, Amy Fallon and Kate Murray

What the costs are:
Our initial costs are the fee for the Graphic Designer, the printing costs of the journal and then the promotional costs.

Who you hope to sell to:

Our target market is parents of/and children between the ages of 7-13 years.

When the project will be ready:
We are aiming to have our journal ready at the beginning of December in time for Christmas. It will make a wonderful Stocking Filler.

When it will be available for sale:
It will be available for sale on the 2nd week of December 2023.

Where it will be available for sale:

As our products are not being made by us, our channel of distribution is

Designer – Manufacturer –Retailer – Consumer.

We have been selling our product online and will be attending a few Christmas fairs in the upcoming weeks. There is a TY Enterprise Website set up in our school where our product will be made available on. Our product will also be available to buy in Dawn Till Dusk in Strokestown.

How customers can pay:
We will have a PayPal option and /or a Revolut option for payment. We will accept cash for personal sales.
